HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

Check back over the next couple of weeks to see what 2012 holds for Quintabile!

October 2011

The past few months have been the busiest yet for Quintabile.
The summer began with a performance as part of the Three Choirs Festival, Worcester, in the beautiful town hall, with renditions of Lutoslawski's Mini Overture and Gareth Wood's Quintet for Brass receiving critical acclaim.
August saw the quintet travel the length of France to perform as guest artists at ‘Les Balades Musicales’ in Combret sur Rance. The festival, set up by Peter and Pat Gane aims to give young, aspiring, high quality European artists the opportunity of performance enrichment in a unique corner of ‘France Profonde’. Our heartfelt thanks go out to both Peter and Pat and also guest artist John Miller for a superb week of music making.
It was all change in September as we said goodbye to Ben Gernon, our long serving tuba player, who is embarking on a career as a conductor. We wish Ben the best of luck with his baton!
It was also the time to welcome new member Edd Leech, graduate of the Royal Northern and Royal Academy of Music, to the Quintabile fold.
Edd was quick to receive his baptism of fire, as October saw the quintet travel north for a week of workshops in Special Needs Schools in South Yorkshire, as part of the Live Music Now! Scheme.
The week culminated with an evening recital at the stunning Newby Hall, attended by local dignitaries and VIPs.
2012 promises to be just as exciting for Quintabile, with a trip to North Yorkshire and Sherbourne Town Bands 'Easter Brass Break' just some of the events to look forward to.

Happy New Year!

Quintabile kick started their new year with an evening recital for the Company of Plaisteres' New Year dinner. Entertaining the guests with a short programme of baroque and english folk music, a brilliant start to the year was had by all! The Company of Plaisteres are the 46th livery company in the City of London and exist to encourage excellence in all aspects of plastering. We are very grateful for their kind hospitality and if you'd like to find out more about the company, follow this link: http://www.plaistererslivery.co.uk/

We would like to thank Nathan Richards who is a student at the Royal Academy of Music for very kindly playing with us and we are very pleased to welcome back Emily from her very hectic three months playing in the Thursford Christmas Spectacular!

We have some very exciting plans for this year, with one of the most exciting being an invitation by Peter and Pat Gane to play in their annual music festival in the South of France. We will post some more details very soon!

Sunday 5th December- St Paul's Cathedral

There has been a cathedral at St Paul's since 604AD, and after the Great Fire of London Sir Christopher Wren designed the magnificent building that stands today. Built between 1675 and 1710 St Paul's is the highest point in the City of London and is considered by many to be a symbol of hope, resilience and strength.

Quintabile are really proud to announce that we are performing on the steps of St Paul's on Sunday 5th December from 12:45-2:30pm. We are raising funds for Barnardo's, a charity which through 415 projects in this country aims to protect vulnerable children and victims of abuse. Please come and support us and help us to raise money for this fantastic charity.

Sunday 14th November

Remembrance Sunday is always a really important day in the Quintabile calendar. Heading up to Islington Green, Angel, we played in Islington's multi faith service in memory of those who have given their lives serving our country. Wrapped up in our winter coats, gloves and scarves we played congregational hymns as well as music for the placing of the wreaths. Sam Kinrade played the Last Post with considerable commendation and it was a real honour for us all to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for the freedoms we enjoy today.

Leadenhall Christmas Market

With only 40 days until Christmas and the arrival of Starbuck's red cups, it is officially the festive season and what better place to start than Leadenhall Christmas Market. The market opens on Monday 15th November and the new Lord Mayor will be switching on the lights on Friday 19th November.

Come and see Quintabile perform a wide selection of Christmas Music on Monday 15th November from 12:30-1:30pm at Leadenhall Market!

Thursday 11th November

Goldsmiths Hall

Quintabile performed a private recital for the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths' and their guest of honour, the Lord Mayor this evening in their beautiful hall built in 1835. Overwhelmed by the impressive history of the company and its building, we entertained the guests with music ranging from Handel's Water Music to some of our favourite pieces including Fantasy on British Sea Songs and That's a Plenty! A great night was had by all and we are extremely grateful to the Goldsmiths' Company for their very kind hospitality.

Mr Nick Harland, Deputy Clerk said:

“Qunitabile was a big hit at the Goldsmiths’ Hall. They performed for us with distinction, flair and verve to the great enjoyment of all”

We wish her all the very best of luck for all her performances and in the meantime we are delighted to announce that Paul Cott has joined us for our performances to cover Emily whilst she is away! Review from Recital in St. Matthew's Church, Redhill 4.3.10

"Beautifully presented, the programme ranged from Renaissance dances to New Orleans jazz... The blend, balance and tuning within the group was excellent and this, together with tight ensemble playing and a stunning dynamic range, ensured a concert of quality. A group with a promising future!"
