Stephen Peneycad - TrumpetMatt Hardy

Stephen grew up in Bromley where he learnt with Ray Allen and played with various ensembles at the Bromley Youth Music Trust before being invited to join the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. He continued his studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he learnt with Paul Beniston, Paul Cosh, Anne McAneney and natural trumpet with Steve Keavy. There, he performed with the symphony orchestra, chamber orchestra, and as a soloist with the Ubu ensemble covering contemporary repertoire.

He is a busy freelance musician, performing in various shows, orchestras and chamber ensembles, including at Glynbourne Opera  with the London Philhamonic Orchestra and with the Philharmonia Orchestra Brass Quintet. In addition to his performing career, he has worked with the LSO on their education schemes and extends his versatility to playing with the function band Pandora’s Jukebox.

Sam Kinrade - TrumpetSam Kinrade

Educated at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester, Sam studied trumpet with Gareth Small, playing with many ensembles, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and Big Band. He continued his studies at the Guildhall where he graduated with First Class honours in 2011.

In addition to his studies at the Guildhall Sam enjoys a busy playing career in and around London. He recently made his BBC Prroms debut with the Halle Orchestra and has seats in the Young Musicians’ Symphony Orchestra, University of London Symphony Orchestra and the Helios Chamber Orchestra. A versatile musician, Sam enjoys working with other ensembles and plays in function band Pandora’s Jukebox, salsa band Zand’s Collective and Guildhall Folk Ensemble. In 2008 Sam toured with indie folk band, Noah and the Whale, and has recorded on two of their albums.
In September 2011 Sam will begin a Master of Music course at the Royal College of Music.

Emily Allen - French HornEmily Allen

Emily began her studies at the Guildhall in 2004, learning with Richard Bissill, Hugh Seenan and natural horn with Andy Clarke. Prior to this she was a member of the National Children's Orchestra, National Youth Sinfonia and the Northants County Youth Orchestra and Concert Band. She completed a master's degree at the Guildhall in 2009 and subsiquently became a chamber music fellow.

Since then, Emily has performed with the National Concert Orchestra of Great Britain, London Contemporary Orchestra, University of London Symphony Orchestra and as a performer and mentor on the London Symphony Orchestra 'On Track' scheme.

More recently she has spent time in Portugal with the Codigo Dance Company, toured with the singer Paul Potts, has worked with the Philharmonia Orchestra's Brass Quintet and taken part in the ledgendary Thursford Christmas Spectacular.

 

Katherine Hart - TromboneEmily Allen

Katherine graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2011. During her time there she studied with Peter Gane (former LSO trombone). She regularly took part in workshops and masterclasses at the Guildhall and had regular coaching from other trombone professors at the college including Eric Crees, Chris Houlding, Jiggs Whigham and Simon Wills.

From Boston, Lincolnshire, she started playing at the age of nine where she held positions with the Lincolnshire Youth Symphonic Wind band and Symphony Orchestra, Boston Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Lincolnshire Jazz and Rock Academy. Katherine regularly performs throughout the UK and with the Jersey Symphony Orchestra where she has performed with artists such as Tasmin Little and Lesley Garrett.

Katherine also has a big interest in chamber music and performs regularly with Quintabile. She has also performed in the Philharmonia Brass Quintet. She also has a keen interest in Jazz, pop and funk music. Katherine plays in the National Youth Jazz orchestra and the London Jazz Orchestra. Katherine also regularly tutors all brass instruments and has a keen interest in promoting young musicians and taking part in workshops and classes.

She will begin a Master of Music Course at the Royal College of Music in September 2011.

Ben Gernon - TubaBen Gernon

Ben is a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, studying Tuba with Patrick Harrild and conducting with Sir Colin Davis and Sian Edwards. As a Tuba player, he has held positions as the Principal Tuba of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and of CBSO Youth Orchestra and works for the London Symphony Orchestra On Track projects with young children.

Ben was the NABBC Young Conductor of the Year 2009/10 and is the resident conductor of the Aveley and Newham Brass Band. He has conducted the Guildhall Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North (Leeds Conducting Competition 2009), BBC Scottish, UBS Orchestra, LSO Community Choirs, Southwark Youth Orchestra, Ubu ensemble and LPO Future Firsts.

He is currently shadowing conductors of the London Symphony Orchestra and was selected to take part in Sir Colin Davis' Conducting Masterclass with the LSO in February 2010. He made his debut with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra in June 2010 in Orkney as part of the St Magnus Festival.
